I was in customer service once and we had a customer named, swear to God, "Boopie Beard."

Her first name was Boopie. I always called her "Mrs. Beard"...

Yes. It was not a weird name, but one that I just didn't care for. Stuart. When we started to date, it just bugged me. It was such a nerdy name.
People are always uncomfortable saying a name if they are not sure of the pronunciation because they do not want to insult someone or appear foolish by saying it wrong. So always give your kid a name that it not going to be difficult for people to figure out. A person's name should make them more socially acceptable, not off putting.

What about Rihanna? do you pronounce it ree-anne-ah or do you pronounce it ree-ah-nah?? Lol, either way I think it's a pretty name.

Also, I used to go to camp a very long time ago with a girl named Rhiannon. ree-anne-in. .. many years ago I knew a girl named Mahum too. I tried to not say her name whenever I saw her because I didn't know how to pronounce it because our friends would pronounce it one way, the teachers another way, and she would pronounce it a different way.

I enjoy the challenge of trying to pronounce names not common in my daily convos.......it's the closest I'll probably come to learning a new language (since I'm too lazy to put forth the effort)

Yes, there is a person I work with (not everyday, just indirectly at work) whose name I feel very uncomfortable using because I am certain I mispronounce it every time. I have even asked how to pronounce it, but don't see her often enough to remember it well. I believe she is Vietnamese or Cambodian.

When I was a receptionist years ago, there was a guy with the last name Dikshit... no kidding. We also had a guy who's last name was Tampon. I really hated having to page them over the building loud speakers.

Yep, I work with a guy named Ling and I never say his name. I'm not even sure how to say it. Matter of fact, I avoid him altogether since I can't understand the words that come from his mouth.

I used to work with a girl named Alethea, and I hated paging her over the intercomm because it sounded like I was trying to say "Alicia" but I had a lisp.

My friend, who is a 20 year old male by birth was given the name Jonathan but when he decided he felt more comfortable wearing women's clothing he decided to change his name to Clare and I've never gotten used to it. For one I like the name Jonathan and two I just couldn't bring myself to call him Clare. I accept him as a transexual and being gay but I don't like the name Clare.
