I was thinking this the other day. Do you think we have something special that makes us different from others to be part of this art?

Yes, we are all crazy! I was once told, "if a person has all of the information regarding an acting career, knows all of the pitfalls, negetives, low pay, unemployment, pain, and suffering that actors go through, and they still chose to be an actor, then they must be CRAZY" lol!

I think the special qualities that it takes to be an actor are things like, being able to interpret words into emotions, being able to think and listen well to others, life experience is a biggie. I think, to a certain degree we are all actors at some time or another. If you ever told a joke, quoted someone who pissed you off or made you laugh, tried to convince someone to do something, tried to be strong for your kids sakes....the list goes on and on. I think all of us are able to tap into the human condition, but actors can convey that condition through their craft. Some are better at it than others.

I think that actors have a basic need for approval and affection that is fulfilled by acting. Others find those things in different ways.
Actor are just people who act. Really no different from any other group of people.

My special qualities? Neuroses, a craving for attention,an ability to "be" another person,a facility for memorization,a thick skin,poverty, an ability to look you in the eye and tell you the truth, tons of training and lots of instinct, a"feel" for your moods,thinking on my feet,a simultaneously huge and tiny Ego,and a modicum of talent.
P.S. I can make you cry, and you will thank me afterwards.
