I am growing Cantaloupe in my garden for the first time. I have a smooth, dark green, oblong shaped cantaloupe growing and I don't know why it is this color or shape. It is 1 of 2 that look like this on the same vine. There are other fruits on this vine that are "american cantaloupe" color and shape (round, tan, with netting appearance) Does anyone know if these are just poor growing fruit or not? Why do they have this color and appearance?

Thank you

They were grown from seeds...There are normal looking cantaloupe on the same vine as these green ones. They are definitely not watermelon...

My fruits on my vines are like that too. Just give them time and they will change to a normal looking cantaloupe. They may stay oblong, but they will change color. I did notice that on of my fruits that are shaded by the vines is much greener than the others were so maybe they need to sit in the sun a bit. I'm kinda new to cantaloupes, but I know that my green ones changed to normal coloring eventually.
Good luck

Sounds like someone slipped a watermelon plant in with your cantaloupe plants. The plants themselves look nearly identical.

fruit even on the same plant can and sometime develop differently. Sometimes this is a hybrid through back to the parent plants when this hybrid was developed. They are fine to eat and sometimes they are even bettered flavored than the other fruits
