Yea, you can prune it way down once it turns brown. However, some people like myself enjoy the grass during the winter although it's color has gone so if you want you can wait until until late winter or very early spring. The choice is yours.

As long as it is a perennial like pampas and the roots stay healthy and intact your grass will always grow back.

If it is Pampas grass, it is almost impossible to kill. I have a plant so big I have to trim it back two or three times a year. I usually cut it back to about 2 feet in the Spring and by July it is at 4 or 5 feet and I cut it again. Then one more cut in the Fall. Hope this helps.

yes you can prune it back when it goes dormant just take some off the top and prune around on the sied so it looks like a ball or if it is pampas grass the way we would do it was when the plant was dormant we would use fie to burn off the domant leaves this is also a way to naturally fertilize it and it will continue to grow better

Give her a good haircut once spring comes and the new growth starts pushing thru..that way you have the beautiful plumes all winter long!!
