I just got a ring set for a good price and I don’t know how to install them! Do I need any special tools? I also got a gasket set.

This is the first time I have ever done something like this. Do I need to do anything to the cylinder? Someone told me I need to brush it out but with what? I don’t know!!! Also will this help the startup smoke that my ATV has? Will it give it more power & save gas and oil??? Is it kind of like rebuilding the motor?? Please help

It is called honing the cylinders. It puts a finish on them that will help the rings seat and seal better. As for the smoke, that is unknown. It could be another problem that is causing the smoke. Could be valve guides, too rich a fuel mixture.
And yeah, you are rebuilding the motor, a lower end rebuild. While you have it apart, do a top end rebuild also, then you'll have a basically new engine.
Good luck with it.

If you don't bore/hone the cylinder, you are just wasting time and money. The cylinder is worn in several different places from repeated up and down movement of the piston. The rings have worn into this wear pattern and if you only replace the rings, the engine will likely run worse than it does now because they wont seal as good as the old ones. The way to remedy this is to bore and hone the cylinder to make it round again. Unfortunately, when you do that, you need a new larger piston and larger rings.
