A person who was dear to me was murdered about a month ago. I am angry with the police because they aren't putting any effort into the case. I feel like society doesn't care about certain groups of people. When, I see a "persons"murder make national news, I become throughly disgusted and I wonder why this dear person didn't get the same attention. It angers me. My anger is slowly transforming into hate.
Question: Am I being rational?

No, you're being emotional, which is prefectly normal in such a situation. Anger is part of how people process grief. You probably had to take a lame psychology class where you learned about the stages of grieving: denial, bargaining, anger, greif, and acceptance.

I suppose if you were to process your anger into lingering hate, you'd never complete that process. You'd never accept what happened and it would poison the rest of your life.

(God, what hippy BS psychology classes pour into your brain!)

Yes, society has let you down!

Yes, you have every right to be angry!

But, society lets us all down at some time and to some degree, society is imperfect. You can't hate it for being imperfect, though you might try to improve it in small ways (actually, you're on a career path where you might have the opportunity to do just that). And, the person who really deserves your anger is the murderer - not the police who's seeming incompetence is standing between you and that murderer. But, you will likely never be able to take that anger out on that person - even if he's caught, you may have grandchildren by the time he's executed. You don't want to hold onto that anger, that long, and you shouldn't take it out on anyone else.

Finally, the media is fickle. What makes a good story is a matter of audience dynamics, media elite preconceptions, and zietgeist that the people deciding what to put on the air don't even really understand. The media absolutely sucks that way, but there's nothing sinister about it. Society in the sense of the collective public disourse /would/ care about what happened, but so many things just like it happen so often that any one incident is unlikely to make it into the 'news cycle.'

Well, I dont know about rational but your feelings are understandable. Dont let your anger turn into hate. You should become motivated by it. There are things that you can do and there are a million other people in the same position that you are. Maybe you could reach out to all those people by doing something to honor the person you lost.

Ask your self, " will it make my dear person happy if hate gets into my being"? I am sorry you are mad about this but you should know that two negatives don't make a positive. And lastly, forget the media and the rest of the attention thing, and let the police do their thing.

My Cousin' was murdered too! 2 years ago down in Florida and the police bearly did anything I live up in Toronto but it seems that when ever there is a killing and a white person is killed it's on the news for days, but when a black person is killed a month if lucky but thats the end of it! I'm gettin' sick of all of this too!!

No. You are not being rational. Use the strength to advocate the murders of innocent ppl and use that experience to better the situation...and yourself in the meanwhile. Dont get mad. Get even. Wake up the sleeping crowd. Every life is valuable.

it is the media fault that your friend did not get any attention, are for that matter ,no one told the media, you see some one has to tip the Media off, also high profile cases will get much coverage, because of those who are part of it,like singers.stars
