He is waiting for the charges and indictments to unfold. Depending on the findings legally, the possible reprisals vary so much, he can't rush. For a number of legal (and financial) reasons, cutting him now could be a problem.
One is that the Falcons will want to reclaim as much of his signing bonus as they can, which they cannot do if they cut him. (I think the less money Vick walks away with the better).
Plus with the gambling charges coming up, that changes the landscape even more. If found guilty he will automatically have to serve up a lifetime suspension from the NFL (we can only hope).
Give him time. Even when I thought he was an idiot, usually within a week or two something new came to light that explained his actions. When the time is right He will act fast, and harshly.
*Tim T, pull your head out of your butt, and actually learn what you are talking about.

Are you kidding? Rodger Goodell has been great for the NFL. Everyone says he is strict? Is he really? How about at your job...lets say you are Executive Manager of a Fortune 500 Company...Essientially the face of your organization such as Michael Vick and you get arrested for a felony such as selling cocaine.... You are going to get FIRED!
It should be the same in the NFL. These guys get a lot of free passes because they are stars. And nothing makes these guys take accountability for their actions because people will love them regardless. When you take away playing time and you take away a pay check and when there is the threat if you do something severally illegal you can lose your job...The players will LISTEN! And overall the NFL will clean up its act, kids coming out of college that have huge rap sheets will fall signifigantally because of the risk and the NFL will be respectable.
There are a lot of very respectable guys in the NFL. Including Vick and Pacman Jones (who both have contributed to tons of charties); but when you make stupid decisions you have to take responsibility for them. Its about time someone did. Now when other players are thinking of doing something stupid; they will think again.

You're nuts. He's the best commissioner in any sport right now and will go down as the man who saved the NFL from going over the cliff.

itz not the commissioner's job to judge people
he has to go off facts, so he can physical reason for suspension. like pac-man has been arrested 6 times, once vick's dogfighting is proven and he is sentenced than the commish can make a descision

He will, he just has to wait to see if is guilty or pleads guilty. He may wait until Vick completes his jail time like he did with Tank Johnson. Theres no need to suspended him now when he is going to prison.

I think he should resign immediately after his latest total ridiculous & over reaction by suspending Jim Irasy 4 6 NFL games & a $500.000 fine for his arrest on a 1 st time drunk driving - where no car accident caused damage - no pedestrian was hit - no property damage which also is a misdemeanor arrest- Irsay was on his own time & not conducting any business for the Colts - so this suspension is bull s%^* - Irsay is able to afford a tv so the 6 game suspension is ridiculous 4 he can watch the games & I think the $500.000 fine is way high & out of line & doesn't fit what Irsay was arrested for --! Goodell should use this money to learn that some people have problem with alcohol and the medical profession deems it a disease & it can be dealt with through AAA or other sources & Irsay made a mistake by drinking & driviing but it in no way warrants a $500.000 fine -! He should use the money to take a course in how to deal with people who make mistakes & then resign and take a job in an alcohol rehab hospital - this would suit him better - Gooddell can take his suspension and stick it where the sun don't shine & apologize to the Colts players who know he is a great owner & it won't affect them in any way 4 they will play even harder & if Goodell is trying to demoralize them -it won't work -Goodell must live in a glass house & if he makes a mistake he should resign his job at the Alcohol hospital & also stay his butt out of Indiana & Lucas stadium 4 he is person non grats & we Colt fans will not be intimidated by his actions - take Indiana off your GPS ur not welcome--!

Why should he?? Its just some damn dogs!! It amazes me that people think someone should go to prison for more then 10 years for killing a dog but most serve less time then that for killing people. And just how did "dog fighting: become a federal issue?????
