sorry my bf collected it and didn't realise it had been opened or that it was empty - it was a jiffy bag
Neither did the post office realise I was only cos I knew what was expecting that I examined the packet and realised it was opened and emptied

The item was cut open in a way that wasn't immediately obvious (under the postage label)
Royal Mail are now investigating and have given me a claim form to get my money back.

Did you sign for it before you got to see the package? If so, a lesson learned. But for now, inform the delivery service of this and demand an investigation. Hopefully you noticed this at least while the person giving you the parcel was still standing there. A repridal company should follow thru with some type of insurance.
Good luck

You actually cannot check until it is signed. Until a signature is obtained the parcel is the responsibility of the courier company to deliver that package INTACT. You can visually inspect the package, and check the packing slip (provided it is posted on the outside of the box) however you cannot open the package until you agree to take responsibility for the contents by way of a signature. Almost every company knows this prior to shipping and uses a sticker or policy to attempt to skirt liability for improperly packaged, defective or mispackaged goods.

One allway tell friends to never sign for your delivery items.
Two allway list you as the only valid signer.
Three was the parcel cut open or torn open. if cut call the postmaster as they have a thief working for them.
The best way if you have parcels sent to you on a regular bases is to use a pobox. then you will have to go to the counter to pick them up and you can inspect them then.
These same problems happen with fedex and ups

If every item of signed-for post was inspected by the recipient the system would clog up.When signing for an item you should add the words,'subject to inspection',then,if you find something damaged or missing, you have a good argument.

I would talk to the police and the delivery company - but you DID sign for the package without checking if it had been tampered with...

On MOST boxes, it is clearly written...

CAUTION: If seal is broken or other sealing methods used, or if message is obscured due to resealing, do not give a clear receipt to transportation company. Examine contents first, sign receipt "seal broken."

Or something along those lines ;););)

I agree with Mud Bug - signing for a package includes acceptance that everything is OK with the package.

If the parcel was opened, why did you sign for it? (Not trying to be rude, just wondering)

it'll be tough to prove, the service that delivered the package is going to question why you signed for a package that you hadn't looked at. The burden of proof is on you, but you can contact them and see if they're willing to work with you.

I believe your signing it means you agreed that you recieved the item in satisfactory condition
