the green power light flashes and its supposed to stay solid green and the screen is blank. I heard a rumor that you need to download a patch or something for it to work. Is that true? where do i download it from. Also i cant find a brand name, but theres some sort of serial number on the back, is their a website where i can type it in and find the brand?

Use the old monitor to set the resolution to 800 by 600 and the refresh rate to 60 Hz.

Then connect the LCD.

Make sure you are using the plug-n-play drivers, and that you disable any modes that the monitor can not cope with (a tick box under the advanced options) Then you should be able to ramp up the resolution to the maximum supported and go from there.

Note typically the preferred resolution is:

Screen size Normal Widescreen
15" 1024 by 768 NA
17" 1280 by 1024 1280 by 720
18" 1280 by 1024 NA
19" 1280 by 1024 1440 by 900

No, most monitors are plug-and-play (they work when connected immidiately) if you have two slots on your graphics card to plug it in try the other slot also check both sides of the connection, if this doesnt work, shutdown and unplug your computer, open your case tap the sides of the case to discharge your hands then make sure your graphics card is secure inside its slot by pushing it down a little also make sure that if your graphics card has a power adapter that it is completely connected to the graphics card. Hope this helps :)
