My sister wants to open a retail boutique after she finishes college. She wants me to help her with it. Should I take a few courses in business/accounting, or should I get a few books on business and teach myself?

Business 101
financial accounting
marketing 101

also maybe a human/consumer/employee behavior class.

Imo, the most important college business course is Business Law.

Law tells you when the conditions for doing something accounting-wise are met. It also tells you what the terms in much of trade mean and how they are used.

The usual B school sequence is to take Law at the same time as Intro Accounting. both are a full year long.

given your reasons I'd put off Marketing until after that.

Pantyhose = socks, so there’s a direct comparison. I see the two lists as being comparable. Men will wear nice watches as jewelry wear I work. When I first start working at a company, I will wear pantyhose with my dresses and suits, but if I see that the atmosphere at the company is more relaxed, I’ll loosen up and go without pantyhose. How come the business development course does not mention women wearing pants? I’ve worked at law firms and large corporations, and many women wear suits with pants. Some wear Hillary Clintonesque pantsuits, but that’s a personal choice.

Take accounting. At the very least you will know how to keep your books, will understand them, and not have to pay someone else to do them. I am partial though as I am a bookkeeper.

i have been browsing more than two hours today seeking the answers to the same question, but I haven't found any interesting discussion like this. It is pretty worth enough for me.
