To the power of. Basically, multiply the quantity by itself that many times.

3^4 = 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81

When you see ^ on a number it means raise to the power of

3x^2 is the same as 3x²

The 3 is the coefficient the x is the variable the x²
the exponent with the variable is the power the variable will be raised. x² means x squared.

Because this program does not allow the easy use of 'superscripts' the ^ is used along with number to indicate "raised to the power of..."

If you use a word document and 'Copy & Paste' you can create a page of figures such as : -

A = πr²


V = 4πr³/ 3

etc etc

well here on yahoo answers, it means: to the power of.
eg. meters squared = m^2
or 6 to the power of 3 = 6^3

really technically, although no one ever says it, it is "raised to a power of"

Ex:

2^2 means 2 squared.
2^3 means 2 cubed (or to the third power)
