It is odd if he is only doing it for his/her conveinence. Ask him -- why. If it is for health reasons then it is normal and dr's do it all the time. If there really is no reason then try hard to avoid it-- the drug used for inducing usually causes ALOT of pain.
Good Luck and lots of health

Tell the doctor that you want justification for this early induction. Remember, you can just say no. Doctors are not gods. They make mistakes and bad choices. Sometimes it's for their convenience (I want to go duck hunting that week). Some doctors are very dictatorial and controlling and this isn't always in the patient's best interest. They tell you what to do and then expect you to jump the hoop. Don't do it. He should be able to explain to you why an earlier induction is wiser and if you aren't convinced, just say you will think it over. You should not have to make decisions in the dark--your doctor should explain to you outcomes.
If there is nothing wrong, insist that induction is done only when there is a favorable Bishops Score. A higher Bishops Score indicates a higher likelihood of success.

It is perfectly normal especially if it is your first. They can see on the ultra sound how big and healthy the baby is and it just may be time and it will be easier on you. It doesn't hurt and is not uncomfortable. My doctor induced me when I had 3 weeks left because my daughter was already 9 1/2 lbs. The doctors do know what they are doing. Good luck and don't worry.

If they think the baby will be large, there is nothing unusual about inducing before your due date. Did they mention to you why they want to induce? Or did you ask them why? I was always very vocal at all of my check-ups. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. I've never been induced but I've heard it brings on very strong contractions right away unlike natural labor that has contractions that start mild and gradually build up to be stronger. It's your body and your baby! I would definitely ask them why they are inducing. Good luck!

Completely normal... Your baby is actually due anytime between 38-42 weeks.. So hes gonna induce the baby 9 day earlier and that's just fine... Sometimes they do this because of their work schedule or because the baby might be growing really fast and he don't want you to have a big baby to complicate things.. But it's all normal.. Good luck and congrats!

Yes it is a little odd, did he tell you why? Typically they wait until you are 2 weeks past due before inducing. Of course there are perfectly good reasons to induce a bit early, but I would ask him what his reasoning is.

I was induced at 37 weeks with my 3rd baby, because I had a tendency to go early and fast, and the doctor did not want to take any chances of me not being able to get to the hospital. Induction anytime after 37 weeks is perfectly fine. The baby is considered full term at 37 weeks.

Yeah, like other posters already said, you should ask your doctor what the medical need for this induction is, because sometimes these doctors decide to induce for personal reasons. I know a friend of mine was induced because her Ob/Gyn was going away on a trip... So ask.

I will be induced at 38 weeks if nothing else happens before then. I am a high risk pregnancy though.

You have a choice, tell your doctor you want to wait until your body goes into labor by itself. If there aren't any medical reasons, then you shouldn't be induced. You have a higher chance of having a C-section with induction then you do other wise, because once they break your water they only give you 24-48 hours to deliver before giving you a C-section.
