I have already lost "rights" due to copyright rather than using "trademark". Would like to file an idea so I could work openly w/o losing it

you must work with fixed form. even a written outline will be helpful. ideas themselves cannot be copyrighted, so be carefull discussing anything about your script except what you have written out. remember if someone else contributes ideas they will have to be included in the copyright, so having it written with just your creative product is what you have to do. if the producers want to change something they are on their own and you have proof as to your contribution.

You can always get anyone you discuss the idea with to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Be sure to get it up front at the beginning though.
