Im due next month and we have 2 other children, ages 9 and 11. I drive an SUV that has a 3rd row and my husband drives a 4 door ..but its a small 4 door. He recently got a new job that required us to switch cars because he needs the room. I just tried putting the car seat in the 4 door and its not working out too well. I tried the middle so that my other 2 kids can sit on either side but the hump in the middle makes it unsafe so I had to put the carseat on the passenger rear side. That worked ok and my other children fit fine, but when I tried to get in the front, the car seat was so big that my knees were pressing against the dashboard because I couldnt come back very far with the front seat. My husband and I are both tall. How on earth is this going to work lol? Where do you put your carseat and what is your situation? Thanks everyone

Your Options:

A) Deal with the current situation-- in a year you'll be changing car seats, and if you dont drive togehter in the small care very often, its not an issue. Just use the SUV when you guys are together!

B) Trade in the car or switch back, if at all possible.

C) Try a different car seat that wil either fit the middle or fit better on the passenger side. (The middle is the safest place for baby).

It depends on what kind of car seat your using for the new baby. I've noticed that if you use the infant carrier with a base it will project into the back of the front seats much farther. There are several "convertable" carseats on the market that are designed for newborn on up. These are still rear facing and also reclined for the newborn's safety but they sit closer to the back of the seat so it doesn't go into the front seats as much...
It may be an option for you.

i have a mini van. i put 3 seats across the way back seat, and when this baby is born will have 2 car seats in the captain seats in the middle as well.

they fit great in my mini van. and me and my husband are both tall. i have never had to worry about the knees in the dash board.

so i suggest you getting a bigger vehicle or switch back. or just dealing with the knees in the dashboard.

we only have one child, but we have that same problem...our knees in the dashboard whenever one of us sits in the passenger seat!! We just have to deal with it and hope we don't get into an accident because one of us will have crushed knees!

For the safety of your children tell your husband that you need to use the bigger car, or if you can afford to, trade the smaller car in, or sell it and buy a used SUV.
