This could turn into a major job. I don't think you want to tackle this one. Take it to a shop and have the problem checked out by a professional. Get an estimate on the repair costs. If it is a head gasket, you might as well have a valve job done on the heads while you have it apart. Put new valve guides in and test the compression on the valve springs. You could get a 3 angle valve job done on it and get a little more power out of the engine. good luck with it.

It is not that hard depending on the car. It is very time consuming and you will want to take it slow.

To replace the head gasket is easy remove the head and put in a new gasket, mill head, and install the head.

The hard part is all the crap on the heads or in the way of the heads that must be removed or moved.

If you have never done it find a friend who know what they are doing or go to a mechanic. if you are mechanically inclined dig in and start removing things that are in the way.

It'll be close to a $1000 bucks if it is the head gasket, and the head wasn't damaged. But there are other, much worse reasons that oil could be in the water (like a cracked block).

About 10 hours of labor and need to send the head to be processed by machine shop. If the head is not cracked, you can just mill the head for $50 and put everything back. if it is cracked or leaking air though valve, you would need to rebuild it. Rebuilding cylinder head service runs around $500.

Everyone is guessing. Have it taken to a shop or dealer and diagnose the problem. For a few bucks you can find out if it is major (head gasket) or maybe minor (intake gasket) leak.

good Luck

not something to do @ home. leave it to the pros. It will cost a minmum of 700 dollars; if you need a new head it will be more. it may be cheaper to get a new truck
