If you are asking for my permission then "No". I don't want you to be sad.
If you are asking if it is "normal" then I have to say it happens from time to timebased on you perspective.
I chose a perspective that says there are some things beyond my control and no matter what the problem there is a way to get past it if you live long enough and laugh hard enough at the misfortunes that come your way.
I am not going to try and quote you a philosopher. This thought came from a young philosophy student fresh out of combat duty who I used to play chess with. His thought was that sadness is an act of selfishness, trying to hold on to an idea or an emotion that has seen its time, and that by holding on to that idea or emotion we stopping it from becoming more than what we wanted it to be. You can substitute person in for idea if you like, he did.
I think he was writing a screenplay at the time, I blue penciled a rough draft or two for him so if you read it of see it then you will reconize his thought behind his fiction.
But like I said I dont want you to be "Sad" and if this is another one of your friends I imagine you don't want them to be sad either.

If you never felt sad would you ever appreciate happy? Is not the balance of Yin and Yang that which makes the world complete? Why would it not be ok to be sad? Because society says that we must always wear a smile on our face and accept life for what it is?
Good Lord, let's all be happy and if we are not let's all take drugs to make us happy! If you are sad there is something wrong with you, you must always be happy!
When then is sad acceptable? When something tragic happens? And then for how long? And don't they give you drugs even then? Who in this world is ever allowed to really be sad? Doesn't everyone always intervene?
Why? Because discontent breeds dissonance. Others hate to see or let you be sad, they feel and urge to right your wrong, something says we must fix it, make it right. Sad is bad because seeing someone sad makes us feel helpless and bad ourselves.
Sad is what sad is.... sadness and it is natural and neccessary. It is not only all right to be sad, it is not all right to not ever be sad.

Hi, you've been transformed!!
I don't believe it's a question of whether or not it's "alright." If one feels sad, there's a reason, & no one should make a judgment about it--sadness is an emotion, a sincere response to something. Does anyone ever sit & think, hmmm, should I feel what I feel or not? Is it okay?
I could easily go on a diatribe about people who "choose" to feel sad, who are "always" sad, excessively sad, negative, degrees of depression & so on.
The question stated in general, is it alright? Yes, it is.

Sad is our favorite. Feels good to feel anything so strong. Then once we think that we have a hard time staying sad because we are enjoying it too much. Yummy yummy, yummy. Or our even favoriter is when you are supper down or sad or hurt and something or someone makes you laugh. That gut wrenching happy sad mix is crazy.

There is nothing wrong in being sad.. it is part of your heart .. life follows natural cycle, day night, ,lightness darkness.. so is happiness, sadness..
We have glorified Happiness so much that Sadness is shadowed and burried in basement of our subconscious...
When one feels sad, sadness should be accepted wholeheartedly and allowed to explode all over our heart mind and body... Let it take over you like Orgasm takes over or Anger takes over..
and once sadness is accepted.. there will be cleansing of heart.. any experience live , will evaporate.. othewise it creates block... and block hampers free flow of life , hampers new emotions to arise..
a miracle happens with Lived Sadness .. and it is All Right To Be Sad..

Sure, if there is a rational reason and you work to get over it. Sadness is not the normal state for humans. Happiness is.
