well, since you already started solids before 6 month... I guess it's ok.
veggies are actually better anyway as they're more natural and healthy - rice cereal is a lot more empty calories and filler than nutrition.

my doctor advised us to start my son on stage 1 foods when he was 4 months because of his size and milk intake.
start with baby cereal in the morning first-mix it with formula and give it to him on a spoon AFTER he gets his bottle. if he takes that fine, try some veggies. then fruits. my son hated the cereal until i mixed some into his fruits. make sure you space each new fruit or veggie apart so that you can spot a food intolereance if it occurs. the best veggies to start with are carrots, squash, sweet peas, and green beans. the best fruits are bananas and apples. you can gradually start new ones as your baby gets older. make sure that he is still taking in the same amount of formula or breastmilk and that the solids are not taking place of his bottles. i think that rice creal is more binding than veggies and fruits, so if you give him more purees his will have more bowel movements. this happened with my son at first, but it tapers off.
people who say that solids aren't reccomended until 6 months are just following a broad guideline and aren't taking into consideration the exceptions. my son was drinking close to 40 ounces a day and wasn't sleeping well at night. now, he sleeps like a dream and is so much more content. talk to your doctor and see what he/she says. in the end, it is your decision since you know your baby best! good luck and have fun!

I think you should spend more time with the cereal and let him get used to eating solids before you introduce more. It's only been a week and I think you should give it more time. I started my son with cereal at about 5.5 months and gradually worked in veggies and fruits at 6 months by mixing the cereal with a little bit of veggies(with formula) for at least a week on one type of food so you can catch any food allergies. Good Luck!

My son just turned 4 months on Tuesday. We've also been feeding him rice cereal for about a week and stage 1 bananas. He loves them both. I would think it would be okay to give him veggies. My son has a doctors appt in a few hours so I can ask the doctor as well. But I think it would be okay.

If he's eating the rice cereal fine you can then progress to single ingredient veggies, testing each one for three days to watch for allergies.
Edited to add: Rice cereal is not filler. Per my doctor it's a good source of iron, and if you have any concerns read the nutrition label on the box (I would now but my son has outgrown it).

I did, I started my son out on rice cereal when he was about 4 months old and gradually introduced stage 1 baby foods. My son never had any problems at all with eating baby foods before 6 months. I had talked to my doctor about it before I introduced the foods to him and she assured me not all babies are the same, each one has their own development cycle. If he has good head control and doesn't choke a lot (he swallows food well), then slowly introduce them. Just remember to one allow one food introduction at a time so you can watch for allergies. Other than that have fun and enjoy him being little now. They grow up so fast!

my son had reflux and i started him on cereal and food at about 4 or 5 months cuz he was always throwing up after his bottle - the food helped him to keep some of the formula down. My daughter ate cereal early too, try him out on it and talk to the doc - every baby is so different so he may not even like the food at this age.

I would wait a couple of days before giving him anything else. Only cause you want to make sure he is fine with the ceral first. I know you said he has had it for almost a week, but sometimes it takes a while to make sure there is no reaction to the new foods you are giving him.. Such as getting bound up and not having regular bowl movements.. If all goes well, then yes.. Remember only to try one new food at a time, so that way you know which food doesn't agree with his tummy... Good luck

rice cereal is the easiest for babies to digest. I started my daughter on rice cereal at 5 months, but she hated it! I found that she loves oatmeal though. You can try other cereals...from reading the nutritional info on the boxes, oatmeal seem to have the most in it...there is more fiber and protein than the other cereals.

You know your child the best. I started all 3 of my children on solid baby foods from jars at 3 months old and there is nothing wrong with them. The only thing that our baby doctor told us was to watch out for food allergies.
