Oddly enough I always treasured the fact that one day I would be someones Grandma. (it must stem from my love of my Grandma) Then we got into the multiple grandparent thing...I RETAINED THE TITLE!!!!!! I can't tell you how I love the little voices when they call me on the phone....Hi Grandma this is....I just love it!

I figure it shouldn't matter where the blood lies. Just gather them all close and love them.
I drew the line at being called "Grandma" though since it happened for the first time at what I considered a VERY YOUNG age!--Sheesh, I still had a "gentleman friend" then whom I would spend long, torrid...never mind--too much information.
Anyway, I settled for Nana, even though it sounds like an old goat. I figured I'd warrant it some day, and it was a heck of a lot better than Grandma. And since I am their only caring grandmother (of the other three), and they have NO caring grandfather, it is up to me to make them realize exactly what grandparents were put on this earth FOR.
When the oldest of mine was born, he started calling my mother Gigi (as in G (great) G (grandmother) ) because he couldn't say anything else. It pleased my mother no end to have that monicker. I am already making plans to claim that as my nickname when I get presented with the next generation (although it had better be at least 15 years from now before THAT happens!).

When my grandson was younger he went thru a confused state--my daughter would tell him ( I'm sure) we're going to grandma's house, he would say, where's Joey (hamster) where's the horsies--where's the puppies. He finally sorted it out. Now he knows exactly who I am and that I am the one that watches him not all the others. We have a wonderful time and I am teaching him to use the computer to play sol. I am Grandma, not Judy, or Vicki, Sheri. He is 5 and way smart for his age--he even has his own motorcycle and is good enough on it now that the training wheels are off. He looks like a little Evel when he gets all decked out in all his protective gear, mom on one side on a 4 wheeler and dad on the other on a dirt bike. Me, well I just hold my breath.

My grand daughters call me Papa and then my first name. I don't like it but just let it ride. Think it sounds like they're calling a Haitian witch doctor.
I'm told the reason for this is because their other true grand parents have both been divorced and married and remarried so many times that everyone gets a "special little name" instead of Grandpa or Grandma. Isn't that just special. Puke on a biscuit.

All five of my little angels call me "Mimi." It's a name my oldest granddaughter began calling me when she first learned to talk. No one knows where she got that name, but I love it & it's special to me. The other grandchildren followed suit. They call their other grandparents "Grandma & Grandpa" but rarely ever see them or talk to them, as they're in South America.

Unfortunately for my kids, I'm the only Grandma who wants them and sticks by them, no matter what.
Another Grandma is afraid she'd have to do something for them. Their Daddy died, so she might have to step into the breach. Better to deny them her presence.
The other one probably doesn't even know, or care.
Grandfathers, except for my husband, are also absent. No cards or letters, no Christmas nor birthday money or gifts. How sad, huh? Good thing we fuss over them.
When the grandson was little, I was "Me-a-ma" and my husband was "Gampa". I don't know why.
Now, we're just Gramma and Grampa. No need for more names than that.

I am called Nanny by all of mine. My mama (great grandma) is called Darlin, as in hello darlin, so she is Grandma Darlin. Most of the time they just call her Darlin. The funny thing is that isn't her last name. My kids all called her that too. It all started when my youngest called her Grandma (last name) and she told her to just call her Grandma, darling. Grandma was calling the child darling and the child thought she wanted her to call her darlin. It was so cute it just sort of stuck. Now that grand-daughter is 31 and still calling her that.
