My neighbors have two hugh Oak trees which hang over into my backyard. The leaves, believe it or not have already started to fall, and every morning my pool is covered with them. How do I get rid of these branches. My neighbors are really great but they won't get rid of the trees. Come the fall I get over 80% of the leaves. It may sound crazy but I have no trees on my property (less than a 1/4 acre) but because of their trees I bag about 50 bags of leaves a year.
I've thought about hiring someone but the cost is unbelievably high, even to just trim the branches off my property line. Should I sneak over there at night and try to weaken the tree somehow.
I'm really at a loss what to do. Thanks for your help.

try getting a ladder and a chainsaw and havning fun with the branches that are in your yard. or, you could tell your neighbors that the trees are fine to stay as long as they clean your pool and bag all the leaves. hey, their tree, their leaves, their problem
or you could talk to the sherrif if you have one, if not, sue them, you can represent yourself, no lawyer needed. any good judge would say that those branches need to be removed from your property.

Do not traspass on their property and sabatoge their trees. The legal backlash on this will make the raking seem like light weight matters.

I suggest you discuss the matter with the neighbor and if this does not result in a solution contact your local governmental units to see if there are local applicable ordinances that can be put into play.

Consulting an attorney is the next option. You may find this is also helpful. When the neighbor receives a lawyer demand letter their attitude can change markedly. I suggest you use this if the direct discussion and local ordinance efforts have been exhausted.

You should check with your local authorities on this, but in most states I believe it would be illegal for you to trim their tree since the tree itselt is on their property.

You could appeal to your neighbors to take down the branched that are over your pool citing a concern for the damagae that would be done to the fence or pool. But it is their choice.

You own from your property line up to the sky. If the branches are extending over your property, you have every right to cut them back.
