Probably because he is thriving in a fully-described world that parallels the real world. He developed over the years along with his friends and grew up at the same time as most of his readers. It is like having a unique friend that you have known for a long time.

People like fantasy. And because harry potter is basically the potrayal of any individual's life. Its all about the struggles we face in different forms throughout our lives, the pains we take, the battle we fight. And its about whether we won the battle or were we vanquished. The difference is harry potter in situated in witchcraft and fantasy based setting, that is meant to fascinate the readers. I personally am not a fan. I think he is alright.

well i used to hate it but when i read the first book i liked it and i dont know i just started getting into it more and more. read the book and you can find out for your self......the books are better than the movies
