There are probably small bits and pieces of Columbia scattered across Texas within an elliptical path down the reentry ground path. A lot of those bits and pieces are probably covered with dust now, or buried an inch or so in the ground.

If you find a piece, you should turn it over to the police, who can get it to NASA.

Yes for the following reasons: 1) It is hard to find all of something that is scattered all over the planet and 2) even if you see a piece of burned and melted metal or hit it with your lawn mower, there is no way to know if it came from Colombia.
Now, that's two points I get for answering.
You can get me 8 more if you choose this as the best answer.
I'm not asking for unfair advantage here, but I'm just saying that some people have little groups of friends, even cliches that give each other points, and I am not under 5 percent of my answers getting best answer - in fact I only got one so far. That just isn't right either because I don't answer anything that I can't be the best one at because I have too many points to earn to get to level 2. That's all I'm saying. I would like to know what it smelled like as long as you are wondering in writing where it went to after smelling it explode. We would all like to smell that too so if anybody finds some and it smells like something, please have a flavor chemist reproduce it as closely as possible, and write back to good old hasyface who is going to make sure everybody out there gets a chance to buy the perfume version. I'll call it Hastyface subtle shuttle.

There is indeed scraps left from Columbia. The gases have diffused in the atmosphere, while some solids fell on Earth and eventually got buried. The search is on to find the largest of them. Anyway, there's not much to worry. The scraps aren't very harmful now.

It is possible, but very doubtful. They had many teams of people searching for all the debris to study for explanations, so most anything that was missed is missed because it is impossible to tell from any other junk laying on the ground.

They recovered about 70 to 80 percent of Columbia, if I remember correctly. There's still pieces out there; probably some portion of it was vaporized on re-entry.
