If they are stainless steel, try using Jet dry. It helps the silver by coating it and the drying process more complete. Removing the utensils more quickly after the cycle is finished can help as well. I had the same problem, and yes the silver was stainless steel, quite expensive in fact. I called the company where we purchased the dishwasher, had the service tech come out. He told me the following, "Today, ALL dishwashers require the use of Jet dry." He could have told me that on the phone, it cost me $75 bucks, but the silverware would have cost me more than that to replace. Good luck!

O.k. so everyone is paying you out on your choice of silverware.... I really think that you would have already checked this out before you posted the question, because you are not a fool, right?

The racks in your dish washer are probably coated with a rubbery / plasticy substance... yes?

Is that peeling away any where? Does your dish washer have a filter that you figure should be emptied every now and then.... but who could be bothered right?

Do you have stains on other items? Do you have iron stains in your sink, tub, etc? If so your problem is iron contamination in your water. Your water softener and iron removal systems are defective.

If you do not have iron stain problems elsewhere, your silverware is probably a poor quality plated carbon steel and the plating has worn thin in spots showing the corrosion of carbon steel. In this case, replace the silverware with stainless steel product.

i think of David C is optimal. chrome steel varies in composition. The aggressive chemical compounds utilized in dishwashers can go away spotty stains on all however the main suitable stainless. i'm getting the comparable result on my affordable yet pleased cutlery. Being particular that it does not happen on costly stuff is a different count. i assume if cutlery have been offered as DW evidence it does not stain. i offered my cutlery back in Roman situations.
