Since they prefer cool, moist places, a rolled up damp newspaper placed where earwig activity is suspected can be effective in collecting & discarding them. If they are in your house, try to reduce moisture in your house & seal up cracks where they can get in.

Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around baseboards & window frames to deter them.

Try to keep soil dry around the foundation of the house & remove rotting material (like leaves), which they love to eat. Sharp, scratchy material (like Lava rock, pine needles, diatomaceous earth) around the foundation would also prevent them from coming in.

Harvard's website recommends using sticky traps which "will not only capture earwigs but will strongly indicate population levels and potential routes of access. Experience shows that traps placed at floor level in moist areas do best. Traps should be kept fresh because it takes a good sticky trap to hold earwigs."

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Earwigs like dark, damp areas to live in. They love the undersides of leaves and often live just under the bark of dead trees. By eliminating damp, dark areas around the outside of your house you should eliminate the amount of earwigs you see. This could take time due to life cycles of the little pests, but hopefully you won't have as much of a problem next year.

I learned while working in a nursery and listening to the genius manager that I had..the way to get rid of earwigs in the yard is to attract them elsewhere. I heard a can of beer over in a corner works. You open it and tip it. They are attracted to it then they crawl in and die. I hear it really does work!

I use a typical indoor/outdoor insecticide...found at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. I spray the perimeter of my yard/home about every 3 months. Not sure what attracts them, but I do not want them in my house!

Get an exterminator or get some insecticide from the store and spray your house.
