It's pretty much for asthetic reasons. It looks neater that way on arm pits and legs. The hair in the armpit also holds odors though, and shaving them helps keep the odor down.

It's probably not going to be easy to convince your mother that you can shave your legs. Most young ladies begin shaving at about fourteen years of age. there's no physical harm or problems health wise from shaving your legs. There must be some very strong reason that your mother does not want you to shave your legs. Ask what the reason is at this time. Hopefully the two of you can work out a compromise.

I saw the information you added an you definitely are up against a wall. I agree with you you should not shave without your mother's permission. She's going to see that you're doing it. It looks like you are stuck until you can go to college. I wish I could help you more.

Why are you even asking your mother for permission to shave your legs?? Seriously, I started shaving when I was about 12 or 13. I didn't ask anyone. I just started on my own. Don't ask your mom for permission. Go to the store and buy yourself some razors and some shaving cream. You're in high school! It's not like she can stop you.

As for the pros and cons. The only pros are fashion. The cons are that it's a huge inconvienence and most good lovers don't care either way. I only shave maybe a couple times a year these days.

you need to sit your mother down and explain to her in a mature way that you are too old to not be shaving. You need to shave, not just so you can look nice and fit in, but also for hygenic reasons. If you don't shave, especially under your arms, bad odor gets alot stronger, which is definetly something you don't want. And, walking around with hairy legs and underarms is also disgusting. It's not good for you to not be shaving, and need to make sure you tell your mother that, and hopefully, she'll not only respect you for it, but also let you start shaving.
The only cons of shaving are that you have to do it often. Alot of people do it everyday, but i don't think that's neccesary. Shaving atleast once a week should be good. Good Luck.

i started the summer after 4th grade tell your parents you feel uncomfortable with the hair maybe if you play a sport where your legs or armpits show you can tell them you feel awkward why wont they let you? at first my mom didnt want me to have the responsibility of shaving so i used Nair it works great and i think it says you stay smooth for like a week or something b/c shaving you have to do alot more frequently so maybe you can see if they will let you use it

also i think you should not let your parents make this decision for you, you in high school your old enough to shave!!! i started b/c i was REALLY hairy and i play basketball so i felt soo uncomfortable wearing shorts around my teammates and classmates mostly b/c where i went to school people started shaving in 2nd grade

So, she doesn't want you to shave. Go buy a depilatory like neet. You are removing the unwanted hair and you are not shaving. Wax? Expensive but lasts longer. Pros of hair removal- fashion, and it feels nice Cons- once you start you must continue, and you can at times suffer bumps or other skin problems especially under the arms (that's sensitive skin remember) related to use of certain deodorants etc

Pros: Clean & Smooth Look
Cleaner feeling
Umm, no hair?
Everyone else is doing it (j/k don't use this one with your parents!!)

Cons: Having to shave frequently

Maybe you could explain that especially in the summer seasons you would feel more comfortable (possibly even cleaner) if you were able to shave your legs.

shaving gives smooth, soft, CLEAN skin - shaving exfoliates.
Hair is embarrassing, especially if its dark. (I have to shave everywhere.)
If you don't get rid of the hair, you look like a cavewoman, or even worse, French. or Russian.
Maybe your folks don't want you to look nice, so boys won't be attracted to you?
Shaving is part of everyday life for almost everybody, you might as well get used to it, get your skin used to it, and practice so you can do it without cuts or razor burn. Sure, you get stubble, but that's not as bad as walking around covered in a hair-forest. Just be careful about hair follicle bumps.
Veet works pretty well for me when I need a shaving break to let my skin recover for a while - keeps me smooth for like 3 days. Nair sucks - it only works in patches. UGleee.
Waxing works even longer, and if you do it often, eventually the hair gets "tired" and stops coming in so thick! It hurts like heck when you do it, but thats better than razor cuts and scars.
You don't have to have a fight with your folks. Just go ahead and ignore their advice about it. and don't try to be sneaky, just go ahead and do it. Say, "yeah, I thought I better go ahead and try it so people won't think I'm strange." Sure, mom will get mad when she finds out, but its not like you were sleeping around or something and got pregnant. Its time your folks let you start growing up.

Reach a compromise with mom and dad. Shave under your arms and only from the knee down. When your a little older shave anything you want.

Well just tell your mom that all the other girls are making fun of you and now you can't even wear shorts or short sleeve shirts because you feel embrassed. Sorry to say this but your mom and dad can't run your life forever, besides you can go and talk to a counsler about this and see if they can get your parents to understand what your going through.
