There is a theory (how correct it is I don't know) that "feeling blue" came from "the blues", the musical form known for its often sad songs.

"The blues", in turn, originated from an absolute musical term known as the "blue note" which was a note that was half-flat (i.e. playing A# as halfway between A# and A).

I know that the second part is true, but I've never seen any strong evidence that "feeling blue" came from the blues. It makes as much sense as anything, I guess.

blue is considered a 'cool color'. as opposed to orange, red and yellow being 'warm' colors. ---learned in art class. so maybe someone connected colors to the term in means of being sad.

people come up with weird **** so i dunno,.
