Both answers about the brakes and belts are good answers, You should be able to go to a brake shop and get an inspection for free. They should be able to look at your belts, also, you may just need the belts tightened up. They could be loose.

If the noise is truly coming from the engine the first thing I would check would be the belts. If they're worn or cracked they will slide on the pulleys making a high pitched sqeal. This usually gets more pronounced when you turn because the power steering pump runs off your belts

Sounds like it's time to get your brakes inspected. It's possible that the brake warning squeal plates are warning you that you are almost out of brake pad.
