You don't need to read a book to set up a monthly investment program. Just pick up a low cost equity income fund like Vanguard, Fidelity, or T. Row Price Equity Income and stick with it. If you look up their sites you'll probably find enough educational material there.

The key to making $$ in mutual funds is not picking the best fund or market timing - it's letting the time do its work.

If you want to get more involved, take a look at:

There are some good books on investing listed on the front page. Again, O'Neill has a chapter on mutual funds where he shows how to make a million in mutual funds.

Peter Lynch's (former manager of Magellan Fund and considered one of the best ever) "One Up on Wall Street" is excellent. Not only is it comprehensive enough for the layman and novice, but even professionals will benefit from his insight. It id a refreshing look at how simple successful investing can be.

Peter Lynch has written several good books. He was the guy who led the Magellan fund to such great success.

Just go to the book store and find a book that covers the particular areas you are interested in. There's lots of different choices.
