Precious metals, such as gold, are weighed in Troy weight, not base metals, such as lead. So a ton of lead and a ton of feathers do weigh the same: 2,000 avoirdupois pounds.

A ton of lead, because by the time you get the feathers on the scale a whole bunch have floated away, therefore you would have less than 2000 lbs. worth.

A ton of feathers weighs more because metals are weighed in troy units while feathers and other soft goods are weighed in avoirdupois units. And a ton avoirdupois is heavier than a ton troy.

Of course a mass of 1000 kg of lead(pb)is more dense than a mass of 1000kg of feathers. However for the same acceleration the denser mass will weight 9810 newtons and the less dense mass would weight also 9810 newtons.
Its easier to lug around 1000 kg of lead than 1000kg of feathers because feathers take up a greater volume.
