It'll be a gradual decline in superpower status as China and India become more dominant in the overall global economy. The US's influence will not fade away completely, but it will come to the point in which it no longer can unilaterally exert its might, economically and militarily.

America has never become a cultural #1, it has always been more of a follower when it comes to cultural trends. America is still an economic juggernaught, but, if the valuation of the Yaun were more rationale, China would be a very close second, and, if measuring of American GDP didn't include things like the proffit Wal*Mart makes off that same exchange rate it might even be ahead.
(Scarry thing about GDP in America. When Wal*Mart buys cheap crap in China with artificially cheap Yaun, it reports that as cost of good sold, it adds in the cost of shipping it to the US. The difference between that cost, and the price it recieves for the merchandise is all 'domestic production.' That's even though all Americans did was drive the thing from the port to the store, put it on a shelf, and ring it up for you. And that difference is big. A $1 widget at the dollar store may have cost 20 cents to make in china, and 10 cents to get to America, adding 70 cents of the purchase price to American GDP. )
It may be decades before reported GDPs indicate China has pulled ahead of America and the EU, but, in rational terms, like purchasing power parity, it's already pretty close, and, if you were to look at actual tangible domestic production, America hasn't been #1 in a long time.

In many ways we already have. The next major change will come because of immagration. during the Kennedy adminstration Nakita kruschev said we would not fall from outside forces but from within. We are doomed by our own inability to learn the lessons history teaches.

Looking forward to the day myself. After nukes were invented, no matter who has more stuff, no one will attack a nation that can destroy all life on this planet.
Maybe then we can focus on education, health, and technology for the future. Versus fear and war.
