apart from telnet , ftp . for those there r well defined ports .
i know one command that is "netstat". is there any other command or any alternative way to find it.

Dude,

netstat -a is only way of checking wats running

The other way is getting a whatsrunning (WR) software which can show u the names of all the programs and details on ya pc!

Yes most applications/services have a well defined port (search google for listings)

The easiest is netstat -a

ypu can use a combination of netstat and ps (grep to filter the results) to map processes to ports
