Mercy Mercy Me - sung by Marvin Gaye in 1971.

Lyrics Below:
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Where did all the blue sky go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north, east, south, and sea
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Radiation in the ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can you stand?
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord

Mercy Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye and its actually from the 70s or he may be playing the Robert Palmer version (early 90s).

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology Song)...by Marvin Gaye (70's). His is the original version, but I think it was Robert Palmer in 1991, who did the cover you are probably referring to. Limewire has it for downloading.

Metal Blade is correct it is Mercy, Mercy Me...Here are the lyrics.

(Marvin Gaye)

Woo ah, mercy mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the north and south and east
Woo mercy, mercy me, mercy father
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas, fish full of mercury
Ah oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oh, na na...
My sweet Lord... No
My Lord... My sweet Lord

Hope this helps!!

Marvin Gaye it was, but get the album, What's goin on is as relevant in it's message as it was in the 70's. It's about a soldier returning from Vietnam.
A true masterpiece, I've had this album for years, and still get as much pleasure from listening to it now as when i first heard.
Its a MUST have for your collection.
