The size of nails would have had to have been long enough to reach through the flesh and adhere to the wood. The hammer used was actually a mallet, consistent with the hammers used in that time period of history.

How do you define "dangerous" and for who? Hitting someone with a hammer anywhere is dangerous. While the sentence for assault will be less than for murder, you can go to prison either way.

Usually say they were like railroad spikes which are very big, check one out. They didn't have these types of hammers then. Do some research.

im not sure what sized nails they used. i always assumed they used wooden stakes.
