If I have a 32" LCD TV that only goes up to 1080i, will I see any difference between the HD elite and the non HD 'standard' Xbox 360 premium?

All 360s put out an HD signal. It's not just through HDMI. If your TV doesn't support 1080p then it's not worth getting the Elite. Not to mention that there are no games out that fully support 1080p anyway.
Save your money and just get a Premium system. It will give you 720p which looks amazing anyway, and better than anything the PS3 puts out through HDMI. You'll be satisfied no matter what.

The only real reason to get an elite is for the extra hard drive space (120 GB instead of 20GB). As already pointed out, all 360s can display their output in HD, just through a different connection type. Any visible difference will be negligible.

Just correcting Hyd who had a good answer, there are a FEW games out now that do support 1080p such as NBA Street, GRAW 2, and Virtua Tennis 3.
