Which is the second most important city in america?

I know the first is Washington D.c., but which is the second?

It depends on what you mean by "importance".

Washington DC - Fedeal Capital and most important for politics.

New York City - Financial Capital. Wall Street, the NYSE etc are all there.

Los Angeles: Most Important city for Film as Hollywood is there. However, for theatre, NYC is better known.

San Francisco - Silicon Valley is the best for technology, innovation etc.

I think unless you do a lot of research (I am not up to that) it would be hard to be objective about it, also important in what manner.
In no order I think these cities define the American urbane experience nationally and regionally.
Los Angeles
New York
Chicago
New Orleans

D.C. is important for another reason.

others Philly, Boston, Nashville, SanFansisco
on the rise Seattle and Atlanta
almost have to mention a Texas city Dallas, I guess.

If D.C. is #1, my biased choice for #2 is LA, if LA is #1 then NY would have to be #2. But I am from the west and LA my Mecca.

NYC is the most important because it's the moral, spiritual, cultural ,intellectual and financial capital of America.
Chicago is America's second most important city because it's a smaller version of NYC w/ a heartland location.
Washington DC is just the nations political capital .

Actually, Washington DC may be the nations capitol, but few people would actually say its the most important. Los Angeles and NYC would be much more important than DC.

Los Angeles is only important to people in the Arts who are generally too insulated to realize that there are cities more important than theirs in the world.
