But yeah GHOST, that's just my point. When they win, they believe there's this magical force that will bail them out of trouble, save them when they need saving. So why do I have to manage my money? Something will come along and save me.

Its about the money. Some people believe in magic or lucky numbers, etc, as a method to trying to win the money, but most people dream of getting very rich quickly with little personal effort, and so the lure of this possibility draws multitudes to try to win lotteries. But if you read what the odds of winning are, you'll see that they are very very much against you. The ones who are making money off lotteries aren't the people playing them! And weirdly, most of the people who are lucky enough to win lotteries, aren't wise enough to manage the money so it lasts them a lifetime. Many are broke again in just a few years or less after the big wins!
I once read a saying that fits here so well. It was about Las Vegas Casinos and said, "Casinos don't have a million dollars hanging in a glass jar over the door, by letting people do much winning!" (There was at least one, maybe more, casinos in Vegas that had huge glass jars with a million dollars in them, hanging from the ceiling. I don't know if any are still there or not, as Vegas is always trying to reinvent itself to be bigger, glitzier, and more attractive to those gamblers who feed it.)

There's a stigma that surrounds winning - because there is such a small chance of winning, there's a nostalgic feeling surrounding being "that lucky" in life. And people tend to gravitate to that, and admire that.
