But it IS his "safety blanket". It's for comfort. If you want another explanation, fine... it's because he's flippin' neurotic.

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy lists a blanket as the most useful and essential item to travel with in the galaxy. So from there I can speculate that Linus is really an intergalactic traveller posing as a child.

Besides it being his security blanket, in the comics he has used like a whip to snap a tree branch to show that even though he carries a security blanket, no one will make fun of him more than once.

But seriously, with a sister like Lucy, the boy needs all the security he can get.

He is holding he baby blanket because he psychologically cannot let go. That, and what he can do with it was the whole gag. Gosh, I miss Charles Schultz. Very few comics nowdays compare to Peanuts.

I always thought that he was hiding the fact that he was sucking his thumb. As a person who used to suck my thumb as a child I know that parents, and brothers/sisters, teachers even, can be very judgemental of this innocent little habbit. So I always thought that he was just trying to hide it. I was hiding it with a teddy bear.

see now that's what happens when you try to substitute one addiction for another..now he sucks his thumb AND hangs onto his blanket. (I'm just joking). I figure he will hang onto his addictions till he grows up and finds himself a gf, or, in the alternative both he and his gf will suck their thumbs and hold onto the blanket..
