There are different types of sunflower seeds, if you are talking about gardening. The most popular is the variety packs, when planted, they make nice gardens.

If they are still on the flower and it is pretty spent, then cut it off and put it on newspaper (or straw) right side up (keep it dry)-- the birds will love it!
I think this is Best because you can see lots of different birds come and visit. If you put out a pan of water they may even take a bath. I love watching birds.

jf you grew the sunflowers, just leave them on the plant for the goldfinches. I wouldn't eat them because they usually have vermin in them .

Birds and small animals like them--some people roast and salt them in their oven to eat.
