If you are profecient enough, u can open up the case and check if the cables- data as well as power are firmly fixed to the drive. Also u can try removing it and cleaning it and fixing again and check..If that doesnt work, u can remove t drive carefully and check it in another PC. If it doesnt wotk there too then its an hardware problem..So get urslef a new drive as its cheaper and if u want to repair/fix t old it wil b costly too

Do rate if it helped

A few older drives might need a firmware update but if they aren't even showing up through Windows then check if they are showing up in your BIOS. You know... pressing F2 or Delete when you first power on your computer. If they aren't there either, check the actual connections from the motherboard to the back of the drive. Might be time for a new drive :p A decent DVD burner will cost you $40 these days -->www.newegg.com

what did you do between when they did work and now that they don't work?

sure sounds like whatever that was, it fouled up the lot.

when your computer starts up, the drives signal their presense to the mobo. this is automatic and occurs very shortly after power is applied to the drives.

then the mobo tells the BIOS these drives exist and the BIOS assigns them drive letters and handles the report from there to your operating system.

Therefore, it sounds like the drives either aren't receiving power,
or they are no longer properly connected to the mobo,
or the drive controller on the mobo has died,
or the device driver for the mobo's drive controller has become corrupted.

{I can't think of any others offhand}

cause 1 (no power) isn't it since the green light wouldn't work either

cause 2 is fairly easy to check -- the ribbon cable needs to be properly seated on both the drives and the mobo -- it will only fit one way, btw unless excessive force is used.

cause 4 -- look for the device driver -- Control Panel, System, Device Manager, IDE controllers and right-click ... select properties

cause 3 -- if no other, this may be it and it may mean your mobo is dead. Time for a better tech than I to look at it.

Since it's ALL cd's and DVD's, I'd say that it Sounds like your CD/DVD drive has gone out. Look for a replacement.

Might want to doubecheck to see if the drivers are still good. as opposed to corrupt. The only other thing I can think of to tell you to try is to clean the CD-ROM drive(s) itself, and the CD-ROMs themselves.

that happened to me
the guy from intel told me to do this
update your drivers
if that doesn't work, back up your files and do this
click start, accesories, system restore
choose a date when the drives did work
This will reset your system to that date so be careful, your program files will be changed, but your personal files should be left alone. This could take a while so be patient
