Hi, I am a sci-fi fan. Typically I read the sword and sorcery stuff, but have been known to dive into futuristic space content (the Star Wars novels for example). The problem I have is this, despite my enjoyment of these types of novels, they can get really heavy and depressing. I would like to sprinkle in some humor. I recently discovered Robert Asprin and have read Simon Hawke. Can you make some other suggestions?

if you like Asprin, you should like: Neil K. Newell.."The Reluctant Wizard" ; John Sladek....'the Reproductive System'; L.Sprague deCamp.....'The Reluctant King' trilogy, and 'Lest Darkness Fall'; L.Sprague deCamp & Fletcher Pratt....'Land Of Unreason', 'Wall Of Serpents'....... and of course, Stanislaw Lem. also:Marvin Kaye...'The Incredible Umbrella'; deCamp & Pratt...'The Incompleat Enchanter' . Try early Roland Green, Glen Cook, Spider Robinson's Calahan books. The funny books are out there if you can find them. When you go to a bookstore and see other people in the sci-fi/fantasy section ask them to recommend some funny ones. Eric Flint has a couple too. And if you like sci-fi have you ever read David Weber's Honor Harrington series? Great series, one of the best in my opinion.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Top notch. Kinda fell off after the second one (The Restaurant at the End of the Universe) but still a great spoof of scifi and modern culture.
Bored of the Rings, written back in the early seventies and put out by National Lampoon. Great send-up of the series written by someone who seemed to know the books very well. The poetry and songs are hilarious!
"The Bellgariad" and "The Mallorean," two interrelated five-book series by David Eddings. Fantasy that doesn't take itself seriously, characters that speak in plain dialect and who mock those who speak in medieval flourishes, and is humorous as well as very well written. My favorite fantasy series.

Forward Agent of Chaos by Norman Spinrad Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson Split Infinity by Piers Anthony (first of a series) Special mention to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by the late Douglas Adams- it's the most fun you can have while reading.
