i have used Adams flea and tick househould spray, you can buy this at wal mart and it kills more than fleas and ticks and silverfish. There is a mist you can buy, in a white bottle it has a medium odor, goes away after a few hours, or you can buy the cans that is for carperts and the odor is not very bad at all and does not last long. I have had toxic chemical poisioning so i use the can.

hope this helps

They only live in damp places , so find out where the water is coming from, and cure that first.

I didn't know there were any in England. We used to have them when I lived in Australia. I used camphor, hung in little bags around the place, close to the floor.

A dehumidifier might help; they like moisture and paper. For every one you see, there are at least 1,000 you do not see. Very difficult to eradicate, you can make it somewhat inhospitable for them, though.
