Keep the XP on the computer. It's a far superior system

No! If you try to copy a Windows OS from one PC to another, you will migrate the settings with it. Basically, Vista will not recognise the new hardware and the first time you log on to the internet, Microsoft will know that there are two copies to one license. You will not be able to activate the copy, for security patches, vulnerability fixes etc. The only way to do it properly is to contact Microsoft and pay for an upgrade from XP to Vista. They will send you the full version disk and not an OEM version. Your laptop will then be legitimate and running a "Licensed" Operating System. As for downloading copies of Vista from the Internet, you will be caught, that's obvious and you do not know what spyware, keyboard loggers and / or virus' have been put into the source code. As you already have XP and have Vista on a PC, speak nice to Microsoft and they might provide you with a cheaper copy than if you purchase it at a retailers. In the UK, the basic Vista Home should cost no more than £80

Hi,
That would be breaking microsoft's EULA, which says that you can only have one computer running vista with one licence. If you wish to use Vista on this laptop- you will need to purchase another licence.
