We're thinking about it because there's loads to do for our four year old there. Thanks.

I was due to go there in July for my wedding but changed at the last minute to the Riu merengue, due to all the illness & accidents that were happening there, i believe they are improving but wouldnt want to recommend incase anything does happen!!!

If you look up on tripadvisor or DR1.com im sure there will be loads of reviews...

Holiday Village Dominican Republic

Hi there I just returned from Dominican Republic and stayed at the Rui Merengue, which was absolutely fab and children at all levels will love it.
When we were on a tour me meet up with a family that where staying at first choice hotel. Listening to what they were saying I am only glad that I did not stay there. the complex is invaded with moskitos, regardless that you use repellant. The family were covered in bites. When we went to the hotel to pick them up on the tour I noticed that the rooms are not very nice. There is a balcony space but all room are ground level and the rooms didnt look very secure as you were on the ground floor. The pool looked very nice but apparently does not get cleaned very regularly and as you can imagine alot of children swim in there - need I say anymore.
I would recommend wither the Rui Merengue or the bachata which are next to each other. From what I can remember of booking the holiday the prices between the Rui and the village hotel was not that much between them. If you are going all that way. you want to go to somewhere nice.
When you get there highly recommend the Outback Safari and the trip to Paradise Island.
Hope this has helped and enjoy when you get there

Only went there once on a boat and moored up in the capital. Went for a walk in the town lasted about half an hour. Too many people walking round with guns. Saw a guy on a little motor cycle with his wife ( I assume) riding side saddle on the pillion and a baby looked about 18 months balanced on her knee. Still in Holiday Village I expect they keep you away from the real people.
