A guard from the city was out roaming the hillside with a horse and he stopped me and asked me to return my stolen goods, but i resisted arrest and killed him and took his horse. now when i try to go into the city to explore some more (i need lockpicks desperatly) everyone is trying to kill me. What can i do? I dont want to give up all my gold.

To get rid of your bounty without paying, you just need to serve your sentence in prison. You serve your sentence by choosing the "Go To Jail" option when a gaurd confronts you. As for the forces unknown, it is referring to the Dark Brotherhood. A messanger of the Dark Brotherhood will visit you the next time you fall asleep and will ask you to become a member.

About the only way to pay for the "crime" is when a guard comes to get you, choose to go to jail. It doesnt cost anything except some experience points, and the goods you stole. As for the unseen forces, you will have to find that out for yourself, no sploilers here...

You have a possible bounty on your head for killing the guard. You either have to pay the fine, or serve time, or live life on the run!
