No one has been able to control Afghanistan...not even the Afghans. Alexander the Great went through there, the British lost two wars there, the Soviet Union lost there and actually, we are doing pretty well in Afghanistan. If we had spend the troops and money that we have wasted on Iraq in Afghanistan...we'll we would have made a huge difference in that country.

The United States is powerful, yet is a democracy that prides itself on liberty and justice. We have not gone in and tied everyone up and put them in a hole and burried them--that is the only real way to control people. We have tried tactics that work only with people who can reason for themselves. It will take much of the world sometime to understand that freedom is not evil and that controlling others does not lead to better people. Better people come out of a society that gives freedom and encourages self control. I am sure that China or even Cuba could do a better job of controlling people, but that kind of control is what has lead to the situation in the middle east right now.

This is not the first occurence, the Afgani's took the U.S.S.R. (with our armaments, ofcourse)to its knees in a 12 year war, and remember the Russians are a much more brutal enemy than we. It is hard to beat a commited foe on their homeland. Look at what our forefathers did to the much more powerful British War Machine 231 years ago.

Because insurgent tactics work against larger more powerful enemies. It is, after all, how this country was established. We were far outnumbered and outgunned during the revolutionary war, but counter to established war protocol at the time, we did not march in columns in open fields firing muskets. Instead, we hid in the shadows and struck when opportunity presented itself.

tell the terrorists to come and fight like really soldiers not shoot a few bullets and then run a mile or place a road side bomb and then hide near the mountains and they did take full control of Iraq within a week (i think )

what you fail to realize is we have the power (financially and physically) to level the place in 30 minutes... we just have the ethics to try and be more humane.
