I think my screen's gone dull. I can still read pretty well, but the white background on the screen doesn't look real bright. It looks like the screen is at a bad angle and I've tried every possible angle. HELP!! Thanks!!

It's not the brightness. I've already tried that. I have a Compaq Presario m2000. Would it be expensive to get the backlight replaced? How would I know for sure if the backlight is dying?

I've just got back to the US and I've been using my laptop at 240v for the past couple of months and it was working fine. My adapter supported it. And it's been acting like this ever since I got back. Do you think the change in voltage would have anything to do with my problem? Thanks!

Most laptops only have one backlight, so I doubt that you need that replacing.

Check to see if you or someone has reduced the brightness level. There is usually a Fn + ?? key combinations to increase and decrease brightness.

Many power management schemes will reduce the brightness of the LCD. Typically if you unplug from the AC power the brightness drops. Check to see if you have somehow switched to a low power scheme. You should be able to force the system into a high brightness mode even when unplugged, it will reduce you battery run time though.

If it's not brightness, the backlight/LCD FL Inverter might need replacing. Also the screen could be loose or a cable is loose. If you can, plug it into an external monitor and see if it works fine there. If it does then It has to be the FL Inverter and it's just the screen, not your computer. Either way, take it to a computer store, they can fix it.
