this is an old myth....i don't know how old your mum is or what her mom taught her, but i know it was common in the 60's for women to tell their daughters not to bathe because it would give them cramps. But this conception is sooooo wrong, if anything you need to bathe more often when you are on your period because you sweat more, and have wayyy more oil in your skin at this time. I am not trying to say ignore your mum...but....ignore your mum unless you want to skip baths for about a week....ewwww. and no you don't have to use a tampon and there will not be blood in the water as long as you clean up really good before you get in......your period doesn't flow when you are in water....or atleast mine doesn't it just kind of stops....just make sure you wipe good before you get in.

Absolutely!
A warm bath can help any cramps or lower back pain, and it's also relaxing!
Additionally, this is the more important time to feel clean and fresh and you should take care of yourself!
And yes, spicy food is fine - you may have acid reflux, though.
Is this a cultural difference? I know that some places, women are forced to go off to 'menstrual huts' when they have their periods, aren't allowed to bathe, and have no contact with anyone other than other menstruating women because they're believed to be 'dirty.'

You can bath during your period, but there is a risk of there being blood in the bath water - not very nice. On the other hand, soaking in a nice hot bath could be very soothing, so long as you get out of it before it cools down. I personally only shower during periods.
As for spicy food, well, I avoid it because it makes one feel hot and one tends to feel hot during periods anyway. Phew!

yes you can do everything you do in your daily life, and course you have to take a shower everyday! you will stink if you don´t due to the blood.
And it is healthy as you know you can catch more infectious things own there, while on your period, so yes take a bath!
Sipcy food:
There are a number of simple diet and lifestyle changes that you can make to help ease or even prevent the symptoms of PMS. Improve your diet by including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as carbohydrates such as beans, potatoes, and whole-grain cereals and breads. Also, eat fish and poultry for protein, rather than red meat and dairy products. And try eating six small meals a day, rather than three large ones. Eliminating or greatly reducing intake of refined sugar, salt, alcohol, coffee, tea and chocolate can also help. Recent studies suggest that dietary supplements of calcium or magnesium may also help relieve some symptoms, not cravings or anxiety, however.
Good luck! ;D

It's perfectly fine! The water pushes it back in, the only reason you don't swim while on your period is because when you get out it may/will drip down your leg. But it's perfectly sanitary ^_^ no worries, I'd just have a towel near by, or have a pair of undies with a new pad on to slip on after you're done. Enjoy your bath!

You can have a bath if you want. The only problem there is that the water will have blood in it. It's best just to a shower. And eating anything doesn't matter while on your period.

Don't belive her. You can take a bath and you can eat and drink whaver you want. Those are myths many older people belive don't worry. You need a tampon to swim in the pool but if you are in your own bath go ahead take a bath its ok. There is nothing you can't do on your period. You can eat whatever drink whatever and do whatever don't belive old myths like that.
