Do You think that the U.N is upholding the principles of freedom, human rights, respect of other countries for other sovereign states, etc.

I think the U.N has failed over the years as it didn't or hasn't do(ne) enough to stop the Rwandan genocide, the war in Iraq, China's objection to acknowledge Taiwan as a sovereign state, etc.

What do you think?

The correct answer is a mixture of both Yes and No.

Yes-- It is attempting to carry out its charter obligations and has made much progress in the field of World Health and research into diseases around the world.
International treaties relating to air travel, laws of the seas, telecommunications etc are being implemented and approved upon.
Some its agencies, such as UNICEF, WHO, UNHCR are doing good jobs in regards to refugees resettlement, assisting children in education and health, and in general health causes.

No -- It is not doing what is in its charter.
Part of this is because several countries are not paying their way by paying their levies. The US is billions of dollars, and years behind in its levies. Britain is also behind by a much smaller amount.
The UN often does not implement aspects of its charter because of political pressure from one or more of its "permanent members" on the security council. If it was doing its job in implementing its charter then sanctions would have been placed upon the US for its violating Iraqi sovereignty, or when the US invaded Grenada and Panama. Other countries have invaded other countries and the UN has not placed sanctions because of political interference by security council members.

The UN is "Corrupt" as hell and is failing badly. I have personally witnessed the sale of "Food Aid" in a country where people die of hunger (big sacks of rice, being sold off the back of a 20ton truck. Each sack with clear "black"lettering which said "UN"), I am also fully aware that UN peacekeepers, Aid Workers etc. are routinely involved in smuggling contraband in UN vehicles. Poor countries cannot afford to arrest them as they need the Aid and to search UN property would have serious consequences for the poor countries. Development Aid is spent more on building homes, offices and roads for the UN workers than it is on constructing beneficial development for the poor countries. Pakastani UN workers are under investigation for mass rape. Rape and looting is not uncommon. Senior UN officials are corrupt and take huge back handers from poor countries. To be honest, it's all the failures of the UN that has caused the EU to consider setting up it's own Peace Keeping Force and Aid Distribution. However, the US has objected, many times, to the EU and the only reasons the US objects is because the US controls the UN budgets, buys US rice to feed the hungry with, even though Indian Basmati rice would be cheaper to buy and Chinese rice would be even cheaper to buy and cheaper to distribute. The UN give all the major contracts to US Corporations, companies, NGOs etc. The UN needs to be abolished, as the EU recognise and investigated for all crimes (corruption, theft, rape, murder, extortion and smuggling etc.). The investigations should include those at the very top of the UN to the very bottom. From what I have witnessed, UN (especially Americans) workers are not interested in saving lives, nor are they interested in doing some work. Instead they hang around Capital Cities, in luxury cars and luxury accomodation. They destroy beautiful environments to build holiday homes and polute lakes with oil from their boats. They destroy forestry to clear land for their homes etc. All this happens in front of the poorest people on this planet. To add insult to injury, they treat local people like sh*te and encourage Governments to seize local people's land (and demolish their homes) to free up prime land, in city centres, for building American homes on. Those local people do not get any compensation for losing their homes and land. JUst hearing the letters UN angers me!

No, I don't, and furthermore, they don't seem to care much about U.S. sovereignty. Google "US national parks under UN control" and take the time to read about what it really means.
