I am an A level student and applied for University. I didn't make the grades I needed so presumed I had not got a place on my chosen course however when I called up the University they said "yes I can confirm you are safe all you need to do now is confirm your place.Well done." As a result I didn't take the necessary action regarding clearing or my secong choice.
However this morning after a night of celebration I got a letter telling me I HADN'T been given a place on my chosen course and instead would have to choose a different course at the Uni.
Is it just me that think this is terrible? And I'm not just saying it becauseit happened to me! I have a good mind to complain!

Lets face facts here. If you had worked a bit harder on these p1ss easy exams you would not be in this position. Then you went on to celebrate your failure to achieve your grades.

I'll tell you about fair !!!!

Why are people giving you congratulations when you failed to make the grade???

First of all - Congratulation and well done you.

Secondly - You must complain. You were lead to believe that
everything was alright. If you don't say anything how will they
know that they have made an error? And if it was an error
someone has to be held responsible for this. The only worry
is that you did not get back to confirm with them. Its worth a
try though. Good Luck.

This is typical of academics and their staffs who have a contempt for everyone but them selves. My son had the same trouble with the Yes No brigade at a university at a time when his Grandfather had died. it took a very enraged telephone from my wife to sort things out. The comment to my son by the head of the Course was, " At least you are more polite to me than your mother," This caused howls of amusement from the rest of the family because she rarely says boo to a goose. The thought of her being rude to a stranger well----

That must be a real let down. I just hope I don't have to go through the same thing when I apply

If you didn't make clearing because you didn't do something that you should, the issue rest squarely on your shoulders and ergo, your fault and no one else's. So all the whining and *itching in the world won't change that fact.

It's both unfair and incompetent.

Get your parents to do what Scouse's wife did. Shout at them and be aggressive until they back down.

After all, this is your future you are talking about, not something trivial.
