I am considering upgrading my laptop (Vista o/s) from 1MB of memory to 2MB of memory. Will I be able to tell a drastic change in my computer's speed? I can tell right now that it isn't as fast as it could be, but it's not exactly slow either. What do you think I should do? It was very fast before I put Vista on here.

actually even if you have 2 GB of ram your computer will still hang at times, its best to go full max for your computer,in other words, get the most RAM you can possibly have vista needs at least 3GB RAM to run at a pretty good speed, and you shouldve stayed with XP,its more stable than vista, vista is a RAM-HOGGER and it takes up many resources.as Samuel Adams above me said,CRUCIAL.COM is a great site where you can get RAM,and they even have a scanner to scan your computer for any RAM upgrades if you don't know how much you should get.and they also have many discount packages too.for example if you get 1 stick of 1GB ram for 50$,you can probably get a 2 Sticks of (1) GB of ram for 75 $,you see what i mean?so its better to buy bulk from crucial, saves you more money than if you buy 1 piece at a time.feel free to e-mail me or add more details for anymore help :]

You will need 2 gigs of ram to do anything useful on vista so that is a good start. You might also want to consider upgrading your processor and video card if you have not

Do you mean 1GB to 2GB? You can't have only 1MB of memory, but yes it will help because Vista really needs that extra RAM. Just go to http://www.crucial.com and use their tool to find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. They can even test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).

You can get cheap memory at http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com
