I see you give a clue, so if you already know the answer, this won't be of interest. I think there is an anniversary and reunion coming up, so perhaps that's why you are bringing this to the attention of the membership. Cool!

But, for those who don't know, I've posted a couple of URLs below for those who want the whole history of British broadcasting prior to privately owned and operated stations. That's right, this is unheard of in the States, but until the mid-'60s all broadcasting (radio & TV) in Britain was completely controlled by the government and pretty boring.

The history of the pirate stations is interesting reading.

The BBC radio was called the Light Programme and played cr*p music. The government would not change it, so Caroline and other station set up outside the 3 mile limit and p*ssed the government off

In the end it all got changed for the best and we can all listen to what ever music you like.

To play music for the young rock generation which was mostly ignored by normal radio that concentrated to much on music for their parents!
